In December 2010, the Duke visited The Royal Irish Regiment at Forward Operating Base Shawqat. His Royal Highness afterwards visited Task Force Helmand Headquarters, Lashkar Gah.

The Duke then visited 2nd Battalion The Royal Regiment of Scotland and afterwards met military and civilian personnel serving in the Brigade Headquarters and the Helmand Provincial Reconstruction Team.

His Royal Highness returned to Camp Bastion where he visited Joint Helicopter Force (Afghanistan) comprising units from the Fleet Air Arm, Army Air Corps and Royal Air Force.
