Private John Hamilton was the son of David and Agnes Sime Hamilton, of Edinburgh, and husband of Catherine Nimmo Hamilton, also of Edinburgh. He served with the 8th (Midlands) Parachute Battalion in the Normandy Campaign. He was part of a group that liberated the village of Beuzeville from the Germans. 

Hamilton died on the 25th August 1944, aged 31. He is now buried at Ranville war Cemetery near Caen, Normandy.
