Lance Corporal John Patrick Boyle was the son of Thomas and Bridget Boyle, and husband of Kathleen Boyle, of Morton, Derbyshire. He enlisted into The Cameronians in 1940, and volunteered for The Parachute Regiment in 1942. Lance Corporal Boyle attended Parachute Training course number 38 between 9 and 20 November 1942. He was posted to 4 Platoon, B Company, the 8th (Midlands) Parachute Battalion and took part in the D-Day landings to Normandy, during Op Overlord on 5-6 June 1944.

Lance Corporal Boyle died on 6 June 1944, aged 25 years old. He is now buried at Ranville War Cemetery, Normandy.
