‘Freddie’ Kemp enlisted in December 1972 and was commissioned into The Royal Engineers in June 1973.

2Lt Kemp undertook P Company in November 1974 as a member of 9 Parachute Squadron RE (9 PARA Sqn) with whom he served until 1983.

Major Kemp returned to 9 PARA Sqn in June 1985 until December 1986.

After transferring to The Parachute Regiment in 1991 Maj Kemp served with 10 PARA for three years and at 16 Air Assault HQ from 2001-2005 as a Lieutenant Colonel.

Between January 2009 and August 2013 Colonel Kemp worked at the Ministry of Defence, returning in September 2013.

During His military career he has undertaken exercises with the American, French, German, Canadian and Singaporean Airborne Forces and training teams from Sierra Leone and Pakistan. Exercises locations include the Netherlands, France, Germany, Canada, Iceland, Denmark, Norway, Malaysia, Hong Kong, The Falkand Islands, Singapore, Australia, New Zealand, Cyprus, Oman, Kuwait and Bahrain.

Col Kemp has seen active service in Northern Ireland, The Falklands, Iraq and Afghanistan.

Col Kemp has jumped at the Arnhem Commemorations during the 50th, 60th, 65th and 70th Anniversaries of Operation Market Garden.

A keen military historian Col Kemp ran Airborne Battlefield tours for the military for over twenty years.
