David Coutts was the son of David and Elisabeth Coutts, of Dundee. He enlisted into the General Service Corps After volunteering for airborne forces, Lance Corporal Coutts was posted to the 6 (Airborne) Divisional Provost Company, Royal Military Police Corps.

He served in Palestine and died on 31 October 1947 and is now buried in Khayat Beach War Cemetery, Israel.
