Lieutenant Jonathan Copper was taken on strength into 7 Platoon, C Company, 8th (Midland) Parachute Battalion (8th Para Bn) in October 1943.He qualified as a military parachutist on course 93, which ran at RAF Ringway from 29 November to 13 December 1943.

During Operation Overlord Captain Cooper was wounded receiving a phosphorous burn to his right leg on 1 July 1944.
