Donald Harrison served with Airborne Forces in the latter part of the Second World War and early post-war period of the mid 1940s.
Donald Edward Harrison was born in February 1924. He joined the Army on 15 October 1942, serving with the Royal Artillery from November 1942. In March 1944, he volunteered for service in the Parachute Regiment, transferring to Airborne Forces by completing Parachute Course 111 at RAF Ringway in mid-April 1944.
Pte Harrison was posted to A Company, 8th (Midlands) Parachute Battalion and served in North West Europe during the latter part of the war. He jumped into action on the Rhine Crossing, during Op Varsity on 24 March 1945, taking part in the Advance to the Baltic to Wismar which followed.
After the end of the War in Europe, Pte Harrison remained in service however, and was posted to Palestine with 6th Airborne Division, before being released from service in January 1946.
Donald Harrison died on 6 June 2004.
