Major Thomas Ian Jodrell Toler transferred to the Glider Pilot Regiment in November 1942, having been the first Battery Commander of 1st Airlanding Anti-Tank Battery RA. By late 1944, he was the Officer Commanding B Squadron Glider Pilot Regiment.He took part in the Battle of Arnhem, during Op Market Garden, and managed to escape across the Rhine. He was awarded the Distinguished Flying Cross for his actions in February 1945.
