Sergeant Sydney David Shrubsole, son of William and Lucy Shrubsole, of Wingham, Kent, served with 3rd Parachute Squadron, Royal Engineers. He was awarded the Military Medal in October 1944 for his actions in Normandy. He later took part in the Ardennes offensive in the winter of 1944-5.Sergeant Shrubsole died on 12 February 1945, aged 27 years old. He is now buried at Venray War Cemetery, Limburg in Holland.
