Canon Alan Hughes bravely foiled a ram raid by gang of four with baseball hats and pickaxe helves. He  was returning home late from a mess dinner, his Para mess kit and medals rather distracted them ..all he received was a pen and pencil set from Chief Constable and a certificate.
