T/119626. Private. David Hynd McFarlane.
127 th Parachute Field Ambulance, R.A.M.C.
Pte. McFarlane has served in 127 Parachute Field ambulance for 2 years. He is a very valuable and trustworthy member of the RASC Detachment. Throughout the Brigade Group’s employment in 8th Army during the winter 1943 – 1944 he rendered invaluable service as a despatch Rider and Ambulance Driver in addition to being a very efficient Fitter. In spite of adverse weather conditions and heavy shelling on many of the routes he had to traverse, he never failed to get through. In Greece he has maintained his high standard of efficiency, particularly during the present fighting in Athens when employed as an Ambulance Driver. During this period he has been making daily journeys along routes dominated by the enemy and in spite of the fact that on nearly every journey his Ambulance has been hit by small arms and MG fire, he has never been deterred from reaching his destination. His courage and devotion to duty have been an excellent example to the remainder of the Unit.
