Airborne Assault MuseumSergeant Michael 'Mike' J Wailing served with the Irish Guards. After joining 1st Battalion in 1954, he spent ten years with the Irish Guards, during which time he was predominantly UK-based. He earned the position of Lead Drummer in the Pipe Band during this period.In 1964, Mike transferred to No 1 Guards Independent Parachute Company. As part of the Coy, he took part in the deployments to Cyprus, Malaya, Borneo, Hong Kong and the British Army of the Rhine (BAOR).
He left the Guards Parachute Coy in 1970. Remaining active in the veteran community, he retains membership in the Guards Parachute Association.
