Lance Corporal Harold Restarick Fisher joined the Army in 1939 with 8th (Irish) Battalion, The Kings Regiment.He subsequently volunteered for Special Forces and in August 1940 was selected for Parachute training as part of No2 Commando, billeted to Benchill, Manchester. His first jump was at the end of August 1940.
In August 1941 he was in F Troop, 11th SAS Battalion at Lower Croft Camp, Bury, Lancashire. In December 1941 he was with HQ Troop, S Company 1st Parachute Battalion based at Hardwick Hall, Chesterfield, Derbyshire, before later joining 5 Platoon, S Coy.
He took part in the North African campaign, during Op Torch and was declared missing in action on 5th February 1943.
It is therefore highly likely Lance Corporal Fisher died on 5th February 1943, aged 23 years old. He is commemorated on the Memorial to the Missing at Medjez-el-Bab War Cemetery, Tunisia.
