Corporal John Christian Giles served with 2 PARA in the 1970s.He met and married Carole in Aldershot and they subsequently moved to Teeside and had two children, Sarah and Alan. 

Cpl Giles was killed, aged 22 years, on 27 August 1979 at Warrenpoint, Northern Ireland by an IRA bomb. The incident claimed the lives of 18 paratroopers.

Cpl Giles is now buried at Durham Road Cemetery, Stockton on Tees.
