William Sidney Woodward enlisted into the General Service Corps in March 1947.
As a driver he worked on transport for 17 PoW camps until winter 1947.
He was posted to 63 Company RASC (Parachute Brigade) in February 1948 and went to Neumünster, Germany. In 1949 Driver Woodward volunteered for parachute training and returned to undertake this in England.
After completing the parachute course at RAF Upper Heyford, he went to Hildersheim, Germany. He was then posted to 144th Parachute Field Ambulance (TA) in Chelsea as a permanent staff driver were he served until demob in 1953.
Driver Woodward was recalled for six months during the Suez Crisis in 1956 but not as a member of 16th Para Brigade.
