Vernon John Boaler was born in Swansea.
He enlistment 16 February 1940 with No. 2 Company 53rd Division Signals. Then served with the 63rd and 71st Anti Tank Regiments in Belfast, Paynty, Pass and Lisburn before volunteering for the airborne forces.
He became a member of The 1st Airborne Division on 15 January 1943. Embarked to North Africa 16 May 1943 took part in operation Husky where he came down in the sea but survived.
Took part in operation Market Garden 17 to 29 Sept 1944 and survived, Took part in Liberation of Norway 11 May to 25 August 1945.
Vernon ended his service with 1st Airborne on 8 Nov 1945 when it was disbanded 15 Nov 1945. He then went on to serve with 8th Army signals until demob from the army 8 May 1946.
