Vernon John Boaler was born on the 11th November 1919 in Swansea, Wales.
He enlisted on the 16 February 1940.
After a series of postings to Anti-Tank units he volunteered for Airborne Forces and was posted to the 1st Airborne Division Signals on the 15 January 1943.
EXTRACTS FROM SERVICE RECORDS.
1). Embarked for UK. SOS [Struck Off Strength] BNAF [British North African Forces] 26. December 1943.
2). This looks like a clerical error by the clerk, that has not been corrected properly.
3). Emplaned for UK. This should read Emplaned from UK for NWE 17 September 1944.
4). Emplaned NWE Disemplaned UK. 29 September 1944.
Items 3 & 4 show that he flew from England on the 17 September 1944, and landed in Holland on the same day. After withdrawing back over the Lower Rhine on the 25/26 September 1944, he would have been moved to Nijmegen, leaving there on the 28 September 1944, and flying from Louvain or Brussels on the 29 September 1944.
