Simon Getty enlisted into the Parachute Regiment in 1991 and Passed Out of Depot Para Aldershot with 570 Platoon on 14 February 1992.

Private Getty was then posted to 7 Platoon, C Company 3 PARA and soon deployed to Northern Ireland on Operation Banner.

Pte Getty was posted to Mortars Platoon in 1995 and passed Junior Non Commissioned Officer (JNCO) Cadre June 1996 and promoted to Lance Corporal in 1997 was promoted thereafter.

He attended Section Commanders Battle Course (SCBC) and the Mortar Standard Course and was promoted to Corporal 2000.

Cpl Getty attended Mortar Advance Course in March 2001 and Platoon Sergeants Battle Course (PSBC) in March 2002.

In 2003 on return from Op Telic  he was posted to The 2nd Infantry Training Battalion (2 ITB) at ITC Catterick for two yrs with the last 4 months being deployed as an instructor with the Australian School of Infantry in Singleton NEW South Wales on Ex Long Look.

In July 2005 he was posted to 1 PARA and served in Afghanistan.

In October 2008 he was promoted to C/Sgt and posted to Support Weapons School as an Instructor at Mortar Division.

On promotion to Warrant Officer 2 he returned to 1 PARA as a CSM in November 2010.

In December 2013 he was selected for promotion to Warrant Officer 1 and took over as Command Regimental Sergeant Major at School of Infantry in April 2014.

Captain Getty was commissioned in June 2015 .

He served as the Unit Welfare Officer for 1SG and then later and the Regimental Recruiting Officer in RHQ.

After 2.5 years he took over as QM T 2 PARA in November 2018. Whilst QMT he deployed with 2 PARA on Op Toral in Afghanistan.

He was promoted to Major on 01 July 2021 and took over as QM 2 PARA
