Joseph Stephen Knight, was the son of Joseph and Margaret Knight and husband of Elizabeth May Knight, of Morice Town, Devonport. He enlisted in the Duke of Cornwall’s Light Infantry and then volunteered for the airborne forces.
Private Knight attended parachute course 16 at RAF Ringway from 22 to 27 June 1942. He was posted to 3 Platoon, R Company, the 1st Battalion, the Parachute Regiment and took part in Operation Torch in North Africa.
Pte Knight was Killed in Action on 17 March 1943, aged 22. He is commemorated on the Medjez-El-Bab memorial.
