Joseph Potter was the son of Alfred and Alice Gertrude Potter, of Tooting, Surrey.
He was enlisted into the 9th Battalion, The Royal Fusiliers (City of London Regiment) before volunteering for airborne forces.
Private ‘Joss’ Potter undertook parachute training on Course 14 at RAF Ringway which ran from 25 May to 4 June 1942. He was posted to Mortar Platoon, HQ/Support Company, 1st Parachute Battalion.
Pte Potter deployed to North Africa for Operation Torch later that year.
He was was killed in action towards the end of the campaign, shortly after the 2nd Battle of Tamera, when a cave collapsed on 30 March 1943.
Pte Joss Potter died aged 23 years, and is now buried at Tabarka Ras Rajel War Cemetery, Tunisia.
