John Paul Kennedy enlisted into The Parachute Regiment in February 1981 serving with 15 PARA (SV) until 1986 when he transferred to regular service.

Private Kennedy Passed Out with 521 Platoon on 6 November 1986 and was posted to The 1st Battalion, The Parachute Regiment (1 PARA).

Sergeant Kennedy was posted to Signal Wing, Headquarters Infantry at Warminster for two years in 1997 and then to Communications information Systems, (CIS) Infantry Training Centre (ITC) Warminster until late 2001.

Staff Sergeant Kennedy was then posted to the 3rd Battalion, The Parachute Regiment (3 PARA) for two years before going back to Headquarters Infantry at Warminster in 2004.

Warrant Officer II Kennedy retired from the armed forces in 2008 after 27 years service.
