Corporal Frederick J Whiting

Corporal Frederick John Whiting was the son of John Frederick and Rose Whiting, and husband of Miriam Whiting, of Nottingham. He originally enlisted in the Middlesex Regiment, before transferring to Airborne Forces to serve with 1st Parachute Battalion, and took part in the Battle of Arnhem, during Op Market Garden.

He was initially wounded during the battle, and treated in the Hospital at Jonkerbos, but died of wounds sustained on 1st October 1944, aged 27 years old. He was originally given a field burial in the grounds of Jonkerbosch Boarding School (which was being used as a hospital) before being re-interred later at Jonkerbos War Cemetery, near Nijmegen.
