Frank Woods was enlisted into the British Army in 1940 and fought with 12th (Airborne) Battalion, The Devonshire Regiment, in Normandy during 1944.
He suffered a shrapnel wound to the head on 1 July and was then critically injured by a bayonet wound to the abdomen as the battalion advanced onto German positions near Branville on 21 August 1944.
He transferred to The Parachute Regiment in March 1945, after recovering from his wounds, and served at No 2 (Parachute Regiment) Infantry Training Centre, based at Shorncliffe Kent, until his transfer to the Army reserve in 1946.
