Francis Fletcher, son of William and Matilda Fletcher and husband of Madge Elizabeth Fletcher, of Horley, Surrey, enlisted into the Royal Armoured Corps transferred to the Royal Ulster Rifles. He then volunteered for airborne forces.
Lance Corporal Fletcher successfully completed his training at Ringway on course 21 or 22 in August 1942.
He was posted to T Headquarter Company 1st Battalion, the Parachute Regiment and went on Operation Torch in North Africa.
L/Cpl Fletcher died of wounds on 27 May 1943, aged 29. He is buried at Dely Ibrahim War Cemetery, Algeria.
