Staff Sergeant Ernest Frew was the son of Ernest and Mary Frew, and husband of Gertrude Lilian Frew, of Walker Gate, Newcastle-on-Tyne. He served with G Squadron and may have been in 10 Flight, 1st Wing, Glider Pilot Regiment and took part in the Battle of Arnhem, during Op Market Garden.
SSgt Frew was killed during the Battle. It is likely he was killed early in the Battle, although he may have been killed during the withdrawal from Arnhem on 25 September 1944.
Staff Sergeant Frew died during the Battle between 18-25 September 1944, aged 24 years old. He is now buried at Oosterbeek War Cemetery, Arnhem.
