Sergeant David H Shipp

David Herbert Shipp, son of Fred and Rhoda Shipp, of Lode Moors, Lode, Cambridgeshire, enlisted in the Royal Artillery and then volunteered for airborne forces.

Sergeant Shipp successfully completed Glider Pilot training and was posted to D Squadron, 1st Wing, Glider Pilot Regiment, Army Air Corps, and took part in Operation Market Garden (Arnhem).

Sgt Shipp’s body is assumed to have been recovered by 101st US Airborne Division troops on the south bank of the river Rhine after 4 October 1944. He was given a field burial in the US Military Cemetery at Molenhoek, Heumen. His remains were moved to Mook on 2 April 1947. The Commonwealth War Graves Commission shows his death as 25 September 1944, aged 23.
