Colin Rolfe was the son of Walter and Harriet Rolfe, of Sheffield. He enlisted in the Suffolk Regiment and volunteered for airborne forces. His brother William Rolfe was killed whilst serving with the Royal Navy on 12 April 1946.
Private Rolfe successfully completed his parachute training at RAF Ringway and was posted to 3rd Battalion, the Parachute Regiment, and took part in Operation Market Garden (Arnhem).
Pte Rolfe was reported missing on 17 September 1944. He was admitted with gun shot wounds to the left side rear abdomen to the William III Barracks at Apeldoon on 1 October. 25 days later the Germans transported him to Stalag VIIIA and he was repatriated on 8 April 1945 to the Park Prewitt EMS Hospital Basingstoke, where he died on 15 July 1945. He is buried in Sheffield (City Road) Cemetery. (Roll of Honour, 5th Edition, 2011).
