Private Albert W Giles

Albert William Giles, son of Walter and Dorothy Giles, enlisted into The Duke of Wellington’s Regiment (The West Riding) and then volunteered for airborne forces.

Private Giles successfully completed his training at Ringway on course 20 from 27 July to 3 August 1942. He was posted to Mortar Platoon, 1st Battalion, the Parachute Regiment.

He went with the battalion on Operation Torch in North Africa.

Pte Giles died of wounds on 10 December 1942, age 25.

He is buried at Dely Ibrahim War Cemetery, Algeria.
