Reginald Gerald McCord enlisted in the King’s Royal Rifle Corps on 19 March 1941. Rifleman McCord volunteered for The Parachute Regiment and attended Parachute Training Course 20 at RAF Ringway, between 27 July and 3 August 1942.
In November 1942, with 1st Battalion The Parachute Regiment, Private McCord embarked for North Africa and Operation Torch.
Corporal McCord dropped into Normandy in June 1944 with the 9th (Essex) Parachute Battalion, who were tasked with disabling the German gun battery at Merville.
Cpl McCord was wounded by tracer bullets as the glider landed on 6 June 1944 and was discharged on 12 April 1945.
