J Causton enlisted into the Grenadier Guards before volunteering for airborne forces.
Guardsman Causton then served with 11th Special Air Service (SAS) Battalion until it was redesignated as 1st Parachute Battalion on 15 September 1941. He was initially assigned to U Company (Coy) during the re-organisation.
He undertook parachute training on No 3 Advanced Training Course at RAF Ringway, which ran from 21 to 29 January 1942.
By the time he deployed with 1st Para Bn to North Africa for Operation Torch later that year, Causton had been promoted to Lance Corporal and was serving with No 2 Section, 9 Platoon, T Coy.
L/Cpl Causton was wounded during Operation Torch. He survived and was later medically discharged.
