Eric Gibson Thompson, son of Parker and Alice Winifred Thompson of Thorpe, Wakefield, Yorkshire, enlisted into the Duke of Wellington’s Regiment (The West Riding), and then volunteered for the airborne forces.
Private Thompson qualified as a military parachutist on course 21/22 in August 1942 and was posted to R Company, the 1st Battalion, the Parachute Regiment and took part in Operation Torch.
Pte Thompson was Killed in Action on 5 February 1943, aged 22. He is commemorated on the Medjez-El-Bab memorial.
