Private William Robert Herring, son of Lovina and Bertha Herring, of Openshaw, Manchester, served with 1st Parachute Battalion. He took part in the North African campaign, during Op Torch.
Private Herring died on 19 February 1943, aged 23 years old. He is now buried at Medjez-el-Bab War Cemetery, Tunisia.
