James Colville son of John E and Elizabeth Colville of Alloa, Clackmannanshire.
He answered the call for volunteers on the formation of No 1 Parachute Brigade in 1941 and, after completion of the selection course at Hardwick Hall, was posted to the 1st Parachute Battalion then in the process of forming up, and assigned to S Company, 7th Platoon. Sergeant Colville undertook the 1st advanced training course at RAF Ringway 4 to 15 November 1941. The first advanced training course involving a night descent from a balloon and aircraft descents with arms containers.
Sgt Colville was awarded the Military Medal for his gallant actions in North Africa.
Sgt Colville MM was killed in action on 8 March 1943 aged 22. He was buried in Medjez-El-Bab.
