23 year old, Private Christian Damien King, from Biggin Hill, London died while serving at Fort Whiterock, West Belfast on 4 December 1994.
Chris joined the Regimental Depot at Browning Barracks in January 1989 as a young determined 17 year old. He had recently left school where he had proved to be a good runner and a high class boxer, competing in the Southern Counties Representative Team regularly.
On completion of his basic training Chris was posted to 7 Platoon, C Company, 1 PARA. He settled into Battalion life very quickly, completing a number of military courses during 1990. In all the courses attended Chris achieved excellent results and began to show his true potential as a Paratrooper.
Chris spent much of his career on operations in Northern Ireland. He conducted many arduous deployments during the residential tour based at Palace Barracks, Hollywood from 1991-1993. It was here that he met his future fiancée, Charlene. In May 1994 he became the proud father of Benjamin.
Throughout his career he enjoyed all physical outdoor activities and had a passion for fast bikes. Chris was a very funny man. He could make people laugh at the most unlikely and unexpected moments, combined with his infectious laugh; he could truly bring the house down. Chris was a well-respected, motivated and popular paratrooper who had a fruitful career ahead of him in the Army. Chris was remembered for his humour and dedicated professionalism
