OBITUARY 22693799 PTE. JOHN BRIAN VAUX, 1st BN. THE PARACHUTE REGIMENT

It is with regret that we record the death on active service at Ismailia of Pte. John Brian Vaux on 30th May, 1954. He joined the Battalion in January, 1953, in the Canal Zone from 1st Bn. The Royal Berkshire Regiment, having completed his parachute course locally, and became a member of the Mortar Platoon.

Modest and unassuming he was, nevertheless, a most popular and well-known member of the Battalion. Always keen to take part in games, he was particularly brilliant at Judo, and always willing to pass on his knowledge to others.

death was a shock to all ranks of the Battalion, we all felt it as a personal loss, and to his bereaved parents goes our deepest sympathy.

Private Vaux was buried at Moascar War Cemetery, Egypt.

My Dad Alexander Lees said John Vaux had a habit of having his hat [beret?] at his feet. As he stepped on to the lorry, he would back kick it onto his head!
