From The Pegasus Jourmal, December 1993.

Private Allen Douglas tragically died in a shooting accident in Otterbum on the 15th of July 1993; he was just days short of his 21st birthday. This cheerful young man from Northern Ireland enlisted in the Junior Parachute Company in Pirbright in June 1989 and later went on to successfully complete recruit training at the Parachute Regiment Depot He was posted to the 1st Battalion on the 25th of June [July] 1990. Early in 1991 the Battalion deployed for a residential tour in Northern Ireland, where Pte Douglas became involved in patrolling and reinforcement duties with Support Company. He quickly established himself as a dependable and respected team member through his professional soldiering.

Allan loved the Army and was extremely proud to be in the Parachute Regiment. He had many friends and was very keen on sport, being a powerful rugby player and cross-country runner. He loved a challenge and always set about his work with enthusiasm and commitment.

It is particularly sad that this fine young man with so much to offer should tragically lose his life in this way. He will be sadly missed by his many friends and colleagues.

I passed out with Dougie and he was a brilliant bloke to be around- always laughing and with a smile on his face. I'm very sorry for your loss. Rest in peace big man.
