Danny Leitch joined the Parachute Regiment aged 17 years old in 1993, he passed out of the Infantry Training Centre Catterick with 584 Platoon and was posted to B Company 3 PARA based in Aldershot. He subsequently completed 2 roulement tours of Northern Ireland as well as a six week emergency tour in Belfast, in 2003 he deployed to Iraq on Operation Telic in D Company 3 PARA.
He returned twice to the Infantry Training Centre once as a Cpl Instructor at PARA Company and later on P Company staff and as a Platoon Sergeant again at PARA Company. In 2008 he deployed to Afghanistan on Operation HERRICK 8 as a Platoon Sergeant, he was awarded a ‘Mention in Despatches’ and on return was promoted to Colour Sergeant. In 2010 he returned to Afghanistan on Operation HERRICK 13 this time as Company Sergeant Major A Company 3 PARA, post tour he moved to 1 PARA (Special Forces Support Group) as the Regimental Quarter Master Sergeant.
In 2013 he was promoted to WO1 and assumed the role as RSM 3 PARA, during this period he was awarded a ‘Meritorious Service Medal’ and later in 2015 was commissioned into 2 PARA as a Captain. In 2018 he moved to Regimental Headquarters as the Regimental Adjutant, post this tour he was promoted to Major and attended the Intermediate Command and Staff course at the Defence Academy Shrivenham. In 2021 he joined HQ 16 Air Assault Brigade Combat Team as a staff officer. His military career finished in December 2022 where he joined the Parachute Regiment and Airborne Forces Charity ‘Support Our Paras’.
