Robert Arthur Stoodley enlisted into The Highland Regiment and then volunteered for airborne forces during the Second World War.
He qualified as a military parachutist on course 71 which ran at RAF Ringway from 5 to 17 July 1943 and was posted to the 9th (Essex) Parachute Battalion.
Bob Stoodley transferred to the 22nd Independent Parachute Company (Pathfinders) and served as a Lance Corporal in Lt Bob Midwood's No 2 Platoon. He went on the first pathfinder plane (an Albermarle of 295 Sqn from RAF Harwell) to DZ K in Normandy, as part of Lt Midwood's stick, where he was wounded and taken PoW.
He was discharged with the rank of War Substantive Corporal in August 1946.
