Sgt Duncan Craske was the son of Arthur and Bertha Craske. He was married to Marjorie Craske of Allendale, Northumberland.
Sgt. Duncan Craske was flying a Horsa glider, C/N: 121 with Sgt. Jack Walter Jackson from Airfield 'E' in Tunisia. North Africa to Sicily on the night of 13th/14th July 1943. On board were a jeep, 6-pounder anti-tank gun and crew of 'B' Troop, 1st Airlanding Anti-Tank Battery, RA. They were to take part in Operation 'Fustian', which was the capture of the Primosole Bridge over the River Simeto. The Albemarle tug aircraft got lost and cast them off over Southern Italy. He was killed aged 26.
He is now laid to rest in Salerno War cemetery grave reference 5 C 30.
