Leslie Edwards, son of Tom and Clara Edwards; husband of Margaret Edwards, of Chadderton, Lancashire, enlisted in the Royal Artillery and volunteered for airborne forces.
Gunner Edwards successfully completed his glider training and was posted to 2nd (Oban) Airlanding Anti-Tank Battery, Royal Artillery and took part in Operation Market Garden (Arnhem).
Gnr Edwards was killed in action on 19 September 1944, aged 21, and was given a field burial in an isolated group of 7 graves near the Hotel Tafelberg at Oosterbeek. He was re-interred to Arnhem Oosterbeek War Cemetery on 20 August 1945.
