Major Peter Flynn joined the Junior Para Company in 1989 and after completing training at Pirbright and Depot Para in Aldershot, joined 3 Pl, A Coy, 3 PARA in Palace Barracks, Northern Ireland in 1990. He served for three years as a Private soldier before attending the Royal Military Academy Sandhurst in May 1993.

As 2Lt, he commissioned back into the Parachute Regiment in May 1994 and commanded 11 Platoon, D Coy, 2 PARA again in Northern Ireland. Subsequent postings included recruit platoon commander at ATR Lichfield, OC Anti Tank Platoon 2 PARA, Operations Officer, Adjutant and OC C (Bruneval) Company 2 PARA, with operational deployments to Northern Ireland, Macedonia and Afghanistan (Operation FINGAL). 

In 2003 he served for a year as Training Major 4 PARA(V), before attending Staff College. After a staff appointment at MoD Main Building, Major Flynn returned to 3 PARA in Afghanistan (Op HERRICK 8). He commanded C Company 3 PARA and then took over at Battalion Second in Command and completed another tour of duty in Afghanistan. 

In 2011 Major Flynn became Equerry to HRH The Prince of Wales and Duchess of Cornwall for two years. He left the Army in 2013 at the end of his posting to Clarence House. 

Peter was also awarded Member of the Victorian Order - MVO in addition to the medal awards shown in this profile.
