Earnest Roy Mounce's parents, Richard and Bessie Florence Mounce of Penwithick, Cornwall. He was engaged to Betty Marriner. 

He was parachute jump trained at RAF Ringway on course 36. This course ran between 5 and 12 November 1942. There was a total of 11 injuries and 1 fatality on this course. 

Roy was a member of the Army Physical Training Centre. For the invasion of Normandy he was attached to The 8th Parachute Battalion. All 4 members of the PTI team attached to The 8th Para Bn went to Normandy. The other 3 survived operations in Normandy. 150 Sgt Instructors were attached to Parachute battalions to help maintain a high level of fitness with the men. 

During actions in Normandy Roy was injured and it is believed that he was then later shot by a sniper, whilst awaiting evacuation on the beach. He died of is wounds 16 June 1944. 

Roy was just 24 when he died and was laid to rest at Hermanville War Cemetery, France. Grave location 1.S.12
