David William Coote enlisted into The Grenadier Guards in May 1963 and volunteered for airborne forces in 1964. He qualified as a military parachutist in August 1964 and was posted to No.1 (Guards) Independent Parachute Company.

It is believed that Dave went to Borneo in 1964 and the second tour of Borneo in in 1965, from May to November and was attached to 29 Commando RA on the Borneo Brunei border. Dave served in various operational theatres the Far East, Middle East, and Northern Ireland also Non Operational tours in BAOR, UK, East Africa.

WO2 Coote retired from military service in May 1985 after 22 years service and became a Chelsea Pensioner. In 2023, at the age of 88, Dave, in a team of Chelsea Pensioner veterans with an average age of 79.2 years, won The London District Pace Stick Competition. Beating teams submitted by members of the Regular Army. 

Dave sadly passed away 14 March 2026 at The Royal Chelsea Hospital.
