Cyprus June 1951 to October 1951 due to Persian oil crisis. Canal Zone October 1951 to April 1952.
David enjoyed my few days away from basic training with the East Surrey Regiment, when we were sent from Shorncliffe in Kent to Mill Hill Barracks when the Smithfield meat drivers went on strike in June 1950. He worked for a time loading sides of bacon onto army lorries at the Danish Bacon Company before managing to get out on the lorries delivering to north London butchers shops. The men were all disappointed when the strike ended after a few days!
