Frank G Kempster enlisted into the Duke of Cornwall’s Light Infantry and then volunteered for airborne forces.He qualified as a military parachutist on course 79 which ran at RAF Ringway from 23 August to 2 September 1943 and served in A Company, 7th (Light Infantry) Parachute Battalion. The course report reads ‘Keen and reliable. Did well.’
Frank ‘The Trapper’ Kempster went on to become section Sgt of 1 Platoon, A Company, and was wounded in the Normandy campaign.
Sgt Frank Kempster died of his wounds on 19 August 1944 and is now buried in Ranville Cemetery, Normandy.
