Derek Hills enlisted in December 1944 into The King’s Royal Rifles Corps before volunteering for airborne forces.He undertook Parachute Training Course no 164 at RAF Ringway, which ran from 15 to 23 May 1945 and  was posted to the 2nd Parachute Battalion.
