James William Orton from Keighley, West Yorkshire was killed in action by the River Orne on 13 June 1944 after landing in Normandy with 398 Airborne Composite Coy, 6 Airborne Division, on 6 June. He was laid to rest at the Ranville War Cemetery in France. Plot IAE6 Driver Orton's family originally came from the Southbank, Middlesborough. Before the war, he worked in a dye house in Keighley and was married to Kathleen Tallant.
