John Charles Vivian volunteered for airborne forces in June 1947.

Private Vivian qualified as a military parachutist on Course 218 which ran at RAF Upper Heyford from 9 to 25 June 1947. He was posted to The Parachute Regiment Training and Holding Battalion.

Pte Vivian then served with 7 Platoon, D Company, The First Battalion The Parachute Regiment.
