Eric Martin was the son of George Herbert and Selina Jane Martin, of Birmingham, he was granted a commission and volunteered for airborne forces.
Lieutenant Martin successfully completed glider pilot training and was posted to 1st Wing, The Glider Pilot Regiment and took part in Operation Overlord (Normandy).
Lt Martin was killed in action on 6 June 1944, aged 25, and was given a field burial at St Aubin D’ Arquenay and was re-interred to Ranville War Cemetery, Calvados, France, on 31 May 1945.
