After being called up for National Service with the Green Howards, Jack volunteered for service with the Parachute Regiment because the Parachute Pay made a big difference to National Service wages!
Jack took part in parachute training course 199 at RAF Ringway. Upon successful completion he was posted to 2nd Battalion, The Parachute Regiment.
He spent his service in Palestine with 2 PARA from January 1946 to June 1948.
